Tokyo, December 29 (Jiji Press)-According to the Ministry of Health of Japan, 11 types of diatomaceous earth bath mats sold by Fuji Boeki Co. in Japan contain asbestos.

The ministry said on Monday that the total number of bath mats sold in the country since July this year totaled 23,658.

The importer in Kitakyushu, Fukuoka Prefecture, southwestern Japan, distributes its products to electronics retailer Yamada Denki Co. <9831>, supermarket chain Izumi Co. <8273> and other companies.

The ministry warned that if the bath mat is damaged, asbestos may be released. The product is being recalled.

Japan bans the use of asbestos in principle, which is a well-known health hazard.
